The Corrie veteran shocked fans in February when she announced she was set to leave the show, bidding farewell to the beloved Michelle Connor.
This week, the actress revealed to OK! Magazine that a major reason behind leaving the cobbles was the upcoming expansion of her family. She explained: “My decision to take a break from Corrie is the impending arrival of my grandson.
I’m looking forward to having more time to spend with him and Emilie after he’s born this summer,” she added. The 42-year-old seems to be more excited than ever about the little bundle of joy, previously exclaiming that she was “looking forward to being a young grandmother”.
But it’s more than just fans who will miss Kym’s presence on the show, with executive producer John Whiston confessing that they were “very sad” to see her go. However, he was sure to praise the Corrie star’s performance on the soap.
Kym has done a fantastic job on the show as Michelle Connor, bringing incredible heart and humanity to some hugely important stories,” he said. Nonetheless, Kym insisted that the arrival of the new family member won’t stop her from thinking about her future in the industry.
She continued: “Other actresses from the show have gone on to do other incredible acting work, so who knows? It’s scary but I’m also really excited about what the future holds. One area of showbiz Michelle will not be venturing into is reality TV – she firmly closed the door on that.
