Norris Cole is certainly going to cause waves when he returns to Coronation Street this April – as he announces that he is engaged to Emily Bishop’s niece Freda Burgess. Malcolm Hebden is currently back in Weatherfield filming his short storyline where he announces to friends Mary Taylor and Rita Tanner that he is getting married.
He arrives with Freda in tow and the pair are planning to buy a house together, hence Norris selling up The Kabin. But even though Norris and Mary’s wedding wasn’t the real deal, will Mary be heartbroken by the engagement?
Malcolm has been absent from the show for some time after the actor suffered a heart attack but it is the hope of the show’s bosses that he can have a phased, longer term return in the future after this cameo.
Viewers have met Freda a number of times before – Emily’s deaf niece arrived and took an instant dislike to Norris and his many irritating ways. But over subsequent visits to Emily, they developed more of a bond as they were united in their annoyance with Norris’ brother Ramsay.
